sunday sunday´s here again!
We went for a walk today to an ancient waterfall where they perform Inca rituals at the summer equinox every year at June 21.
It was a pretty strenuous walk, it wouldn´t have been any steeper than Scrabo, but it´s hard to fill your lungs with oxygen at this altitude.
When we eventually got there, having taken one wrong turning, it was absolutely worth the walk.
It was stunning - we took our first group photo on a rock in front of it.
Brendan, the American, took a plunge and went under the falls, it wasn´t very deep though. I´m glad, otherwise I would have regretted not packing my swimming gear for this weekend.
We all bought "happy pants" you know those baggy cotton hippie trousers you can get in Fresh Garbage and the like. Well they make them here and you can get stripey or plain or tie dyed. Guess which ones I went for!?!?
Yep, you guessed it, the super, duper hippie tie dye numbers, they even have moons on the side.
I worked out I might be able to attend the special sun ceremony on 21st June in Macchu Piccu as I´ll still be here. How amazing would that be!?
I´ve made a few good friends already and comrades with card games and drinking stories!!
They didn´t like our version of "chase the ace" much when I showed them though, they thought it was a bit dull.
The air up here smells so sweet after it rains, you get wafts of Eucalyptus and blossom, occasionally cow shit too, but then it is the countryside after all!
Last night there was a power cut in our Hostel, so we battened down with cards around the fire and stayed up until about 11.30. It was a good time for ice breaking and the shyness is certainly receding now. Two little local boys were watching the cards with interest, so I took a photo of them and showed it to them, the littlest one´s face lit up so much, it was really beautiful! I drew a little basic quick sketch of them as well and gave it to them, the ran off immediately to show the women in the kitchen and when we spotted them later they were still carrying it around proudly!!
Today we are heading back to Quito. We have sort out the kitchen rota and get checked into our rooms at the language school. First day of School tomorrow!
